ANARCHO-CAPITALIST UTOPIA
In his freely downloadable book “Chaos Theory” the economist Robert P. Murphy attempts to provide an answer for one of the hardest questions in both politics and economy. Is it possible to have a stateless capitalist society and yet retain all the benefits provided by the state, primarily law and security on a domestic and international level? Would such a system lead to some sort of dystopia or is the free market capable and ready to take the leading role from the government?
Murphy belongs to the Austrian School of Economics which consists of a community where such questions invoke optimistic answers. His approach is partly empirical and partly speculative while challenging our current inborn ‘statist’ mindset which assumes there is no possibility to replace the government when it comes to such important topics as law and security. And yet Murphy achieves in providing innovative solutions that might seem provocative and ingenious at the same time. If successful the society would enjoy the benefits of maximum freedom as a result of its anarchic nature where there are no rulers. In addition, capitalism would play a central role in the provisioning of services and goods of both public and private nature.
This would lead us to one of the most controversial systems imaginable: anarcho-capitalism. To many of us the two ideologies, anarchism and capitalism which coin this term are enough provocative on their own in not combined into something unimaginable. Depending on our personal values this may be either utopia or dystopia. Is it possible to achieve order by applying the chaos theory to the most sensitive rules in our society? No matter where you stand on a political spectrum, the book consists of only 73 pages so it is well worth reading.
