DON’T JUST DO WHAT YOU ARE GOOD AT

Recently the famous soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic told LeBron James to stay out of politics. During his interview with Discovery Plus Ibrahimovic criticized James and other socially conscious athletes for getting involved in politics by advising them to: “just do what you do best because it doesn’t look good.”

It did not take too long for James to respond: “I would never shut up about things that are wrong. I preach about my people and I preach about equality, social injustice, racism, systematic voter suppression, things that go on in our community. I know what’s going on still, because I have a group of 300-plus kids at my school that’s going through the same thing, and they need a voice, and I’m their voice. I’ll use my platform to continue to shed light on everything that’s going on around this country and around the world. There’s no way I would ever just stick to sports because I understand how powerful this platform and my voice are.”

There is so much meaning behind these statements made by Los Angeles Lakers superstar. Besides doing what we are good at, politics deserve the second most important priority because the possibilities for a positive impact on society are countless. Especially if one is a superstar with role model capabilities. It actually becomes a priority to use such a platform for political discourse and influence. The political world needs fresh characters: it needs underdogs or superstars of any sort.

We welcome and encourage LeBron James to continue doing what he does the best: kick ass in both basketball and political discourse. Whoever you are, popular or unknown be like LeBron James: talk about politics. Never shut up about things that are wrong. Do your best to make your country and the entire world a better place.
