SHE HAS CHOSEN SOCIAL CAUSE OVER WORLD TITLE
Chess grandmaster Anna Muzychuk who currently holds two world titles has chosen to boycott the upcoming chess tournament which is held in Saudi Arabia. She did this in order to avoid and expose discriminatory norms which Saudi Arabia imposes on women. What a strategic move. This is something only ingenious chess players are capable of understanding.
Anna sacrificed her fame and her income for the social cause but hopefully, her move will result in checkmate for humiliating practices in that country. Despite losing her titles, Anna deserves to be throned as a queen in the domain of women’s rights. She can serve as a powerful hero and role model for the current and generations to come. If you haven’t had a favorite chess player, now you know who to cheer for. Be like Anna and boycott sporting events for the higher cause.
“In a few days, I’ll lose two world titles, one after another. Because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. I refuse to play by special rules, wear abaya, be accompanied by a man so I can get out of the hotel, so I don’t feel like a second-class person.’I will follow my principles and not compete in the fast chess and blitz world championship where in just 5 days I could have made more money than with dozens of other combined tournaments. This is all very unpleasant but the sad part is that no one seems to care. Bitter feelings, but I can’t go back.” – Anna Muzychu
