YEAR 2020 MARKS CENTENNIAL OF 19TH AMENDMENT

If there is one positive thing to mention in 2020 than it should be 100th anniversary of 19th Amendment. One hundred years have passed since women were granted the right to vote in USA. However, there were quite a few countries which enforced women’s suffrage before USA. Wikipedia has interesting timeline of of women’s suffrage and detailed history which dates back to 17th century’s Friesland – a province historically known as Frisia located in northern part of Netherlands. Although this right concerned only landowner women of Friesland it marks the beginning of the end of a long journey for submitted women.

TODAY WOMEN CAN VOTE (ALMOST) EVERYWHERE

The last country to grant women the right to vote was Saudi Arabia back in 2015 formally ending the end of a long struggle. The only two countries where women still do not have this right are Vatican and Brunei. Vatican does not have a formal parliament or local government while Brunei did not hold a election ever since 1960s so most would agree that we can triumphantly celebrate the entire world on a planet Earth as a happy place for women in this universe! There is still a lot more work to be done in equality, protection and other social and economic areas in order make this world even a better place for women but at least we now know WHAT TO DO in order to make that happen. Ind addition and as for now this news should serve as a REMINDER that IT CAN BE DONE!
